Story 1 & 2: Beauty and Fashion Shoot at the Beach in Cape Town
Photoshoot at Clifton Beach in Cape Town
Everybody who knows my Facebook page will have noticed that my stylist and I have been to Cape Town and that we had some amazing photoshoots with unbelievable models.
In this blog post i wan’t to tell you about the experiences i have made.
It all started when we selected the three sed cards of three exceptional Models. One of them was Jessica Lee, a top model from South Africa. From the first moment onward we where sure that she would fit perfectly for one of the planned shoots. She has a face with a great recall value and an amazing charisma.
Concept
Even though we had quite a bit of stress from all the travelling and the amount of photoshoots, we of course took us the time to work on a good concept. On the one side we wanted the traditional beach photos and on the other side we also planned on producing high fashion images. In the photos from these first two looks you can also clearly see this concept. The first outfit shows a dress which could be worn on a day to day basis and the second outfit is a real haute couture dress. Also in the blog posts about the other two looks that we produced during this shoot, you will find that we used the same concept ( one more basic outfit and one extraordinary outfit ). As can also be seen from the following moodboard, we have also planned some guidelines and thoughts in advance.
Location
As always before a shoot, we took a look at the location a few days ahead. Even if you know the place of by heart, it is always a good idea to check it out again beforehand, just to be sure that there are no bad surprises. For instance it might be that there might be a large construction site in the background, that one of the entryways might be blocked or that you just find a great new place where you can really produce some great work.
Outfits
Now that we had a date, model and location, we needed to take care of the outfits. The great thing about Cape Town is, that there are a lot of photo- and film productions. Because of this, there are a lot of outfit hires at which you can find nearly any outfit that your heart desires, that can be hired. Biggi (stylist) obviously really really loved these places and spend a few days collecting the perfect outfits.
Here are a few photos:
The Shooting
On a wonderful day in Cape Town, at one of the nicest beaches in the world, there is not much that can go wrong…….you might think. Unluckily there was a bad surprise for us, something of that we would have never thought. All four Clifton beaches where completely flooded. In the 18 years i have been living in Cape Town i have never seen this beach in such a condition. Also the model, which lives only a few minutes from the beach, was quite surprised.
Well, there is nothing you can do and i guess this is just part of the job! While Biggi was doing the styling and makeup, i climbed around the cliffs and between the waves to find a spot that was dry enough to set up the equipment. Actually we had planned every pose at every place and had taken photos of each little rock to be as well planned as possible. Now we needed to just improvise.
After a bit of running through the water and climbing, i found a small beach between the famous Clifton 4th an Clifton 3rd beach, which was a little less flooded. Luckily there was enough space to take some nice photos!!!
